The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, hereinafter referred to as the “Signatories”,

Desiring to strengthen and further deepen the partnership and expand long-term cooperation between the States of the Signatories,

Acknowledging the generally recognized principles and norms of international law,

Recognizing the mutual benefit of holding political consultations between the Signatories at various levels on matters of reciprocal interest in the bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues,

have reached the following understanding:

The purpose of this Protocol is to provide a common framework to develop and further explore areas of cooperation between the Signatories in the interest of their States.

Within the framework of this Protocol, the Signatories will arrange regular consultations and exchange of views on all aspects of bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The consultations conducted by the Signatories may include, but are not limited to, the following areas: political relations, trade, investment, finance, security and defense, development cooperation, culture, science and education, environmental issues, international law issues, consular issues and cooperation between the press services of the Signatories etc.

Consultations will be hold alternately in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Hellenic Republic, or, whenever necessary, in international organizations and forums. The level of the participants, agenda, timeframes and place of consultations will be agreed upon by the Signatories through the diplomatic channels.

The Signatories will look into establishing cooperation in the field of diplomatic training on thematic issues of common interest, by exchanging know-how and best practices, with a view to enhancing mutual knowledge and understanding of the work and policies of their respective diplomatic services.

This Protocol may be amended at any time by mutual written consent of the Signatories.

Any divergence with respect to the interpretation or implementation of this Protocol will be settled amicably through consultations between the Signatories.

This Protocol will come into effect on the date of its signature and will remain in effect unless either of the Signatories terminates it by giving to the other Signatory, through diplomatic channels, a 90 (ninety) days prior written notice of termination.

From the date of its entry into effect, this Protocol will replace the Protocol on cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, done in Athens on April 1st, 1997.
